The Australian kangaroo is a large marsupial endemic to Australia. Identified by its muscular tail, strong back legs, large feet, short fur, and long, pointed ears, the animal has become a much-loved national icon.
Design
The coin’s iconic design portrays a bounding kangaroo surrounded by stylised rays of bursting sunlight.
Inscriptions on a wavy-lined border include ‘AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO’ and the coin’s weight, purity, and year date, together with The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
